History of the Bengal cat
f
The Bengal cat is one of the newest breed of domestic cat, originating from the Asian Leopard Cat (Felis bengalenis) The Bengal retains many of the stunning physical features from it's ancestry while losing the nocturnal, shy and timid characteristics. This is a result of years of carefully selective breeding by dedicated breeders. The genetic mix of the ALC with Egyptian Mau and Abyssinian has resulted in the stunning Bengal breed we have today.
The first generation of offspring of these matings were classified as F1. Only once these cats reached fourth generation (F4) could they be classified as Bengals.
One of the most famous atributes of the Bengal is their luxourous pelt-like coat. It has been said that you can even identify a Bengal blindfold, by stroking its silky, smooth fur.
Bengals are now available in many different varieties; both spotted and marbled patterns. Colours include ; Silver, Brown, Snow, Blue and Black . With varying eye colours from blue to yellow.
Bengals are unlike anyother breed of domestic cat. Many feel they have almost dog-like qualities. They are intelligent, loving and loyal. They are easily trained and will often enjoy chasing and retrieving. Bengals, unlike most cats, have a natural affinity with water and many examples of this un-cat -like trait can be seen on popular websites like Youtube.
